Nato in Nuova Zelanda, ma trasferitosi molto presto in Australia, Urban comincia a suonare la chitarra all'età di sei anni, donatagli dai genitori, fan della musica country. Dopo aver lasciato la scuola a 15 anni, Urban comincia a partecipare a vari concorsi e manifestazioni locali. Nel 1992 si trasferisce a Nashville, capitale della musica country, dove forma il gruppo Brooks & Dunn, dove ha il ruolo di chitarrista. In seguito si unisce ad un altro gruppo i The Ranch. Il gruppo gira per i locali e si fa notare , al punto di ottenere un contratto con una casa discografica....

Humming Urban Stereo (허밍 어반 스테레오) is an electronic solo act based in South Korea. Their music, similar to that of the Shibuya-Kei movement, is a fusion of bossa nova, acid jazz, lounge, and house. In 1994, Mos Def along with his younger brother DCQ and his younger sister Ces, formed the group Urban Thermo Dynamics. UTD first graced the scene with the underground classic track "My Kung-Fu".
