FENCE OF DEFENSE was formed in 1985 and began performing publicly in 1987. The band consists of three people: Masatoshi Nishimura (vocals, bass, keyboards), Wataru Yamada (drums), and Kenji Kitajima (guitar). Each had previously worked separately as session musicians. When they began playing the hard rock which made full use of electronics, it had a big influence on the music scene of Japan, making them pioneers, somewhat, of the digital hard rock sound throughout Japan. .

Self Defense Family (sometimes shortened to Self Defense and previously known as End of a Year) is a post-punk outfit with members from across the United States and England, origin Cohoes, New York, United States. The band started in 2003 as a side project for a number of Albany musicians already involved in full-time bands.
