Black-clad and with an ominous aura created by their distorted guitar epics, burnt-out ballads and raucous mantric jam, Up-Tight are a force to be reckoned with. Heading up the second generation of Japanese psychedelic rock acts (influenced by acts such as Fushitsusha, Kousokuya and Shizuka) they're one of the best live groups in Japan. As you might expect from their name, there's a chiselled intensity to their playing which displays some startling post Velvets stances. Fingertight was a California based band that disbanded several years ago. While they were together they produced only one album, "In the Name of Progress." It displayed an uncommon range of sound--the sound could be loosely decribed as alternative but from track to track style blurred. Here it was more punk, there was a metal piece and off to the side and to the left acoustic instrumentals and borderline emo. The one thing that was consistent was the unmitigated and sincere passion evident in Fingertight's music; this was even more apparent in their live shows. .
The Tights were formed in 1977, and hail from Worcestershire in the UK. The current line up is : Malcolm Orgee - vocals; Rob Banks - Guitar & Vocals; Barry Island - Bass , Keyboards & vocals; Hodge - drums & vocals They were the first ever band to be signed to the now legendary punk rock label Cherry Red Records. Their 2 singles 'Bad Hearts' and 'Howard Hughes' released in 1978 reached number 4 and 6 respectively in the UK indie charts at the time.
