Lucid 3 β Victoria Girling-Butcher, Marcus Lawson and Derek Metivier β joined forces in Auckland in 1999 after the trio met at a party where Girling-Butcher was entertaining revellers with her acoustic guitar. On a creative level they gelled instantly and their first musical collaborations produced immediate aesthetic rewards. From day one, Lucid 3 operated outside the confines of the music industry and the influence of their peers. On a business level the trio maintained an independent spirit and musically they stayed singularly focused on good songwriting.
Working within a genre of their very own, Lucid 3βs music boasts an overall rootsy feel while encompassing equal parts blues, pop, folk, rock, funk and ambient trip hop. Across both of their albums a combination of ambitious arrangements and melodic smarts has ensured the bandβs output is both commercially appealing and contemporary-sounding. .
