Dezoriental is a fascinating group from France. Abdel Waheb Sefsaf (song, derbouka) and Alaoua Idir (ud, guitar) had been interested in their youth little in their Algerian roots: they had a preference for Western music and secluded themselves as much as possible from the Arab music where their parents listened to. Nowadays the pair composes music in which clearly influences from the Maghreb can be discovered together with Jean-Luc Frappa (accordion). But not only by Arab music, also by music from India, Pakistan, Eastern Europe, jazz and the traditional French ballad they are influenced. The name Dezoriental not only refers to the Orient but expresses also a feeling of desoriëntation. The group members do not want to return to their roots, but are into a new cultural identity, where they let inspire themselves by everything that comes on their way. On their first album they cooperate with arranger Georges Baux, Laurent Guitton (tuba) and a complete range of other guest musicians. The result is captivating and inspiring. A cd full whipping music which is full of the pleasure with which the musicians play together. Absolutely a must. .
