music hall | fr

Music hall was one of the leading forms of popular entertainment in the second half of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. The music halls (the theatres that hosted the entertainment and thus gave their name to the genre) featured variety performances ranging from speciality acts to bill-topping comedians and singers. The growth of cinema and then television led to the decline of music hall after the Second World War. Music hall entertainment was very similar to American vaudeville. .
