The Bigger Lovers are a power-pop band from Philadelphia. The band features singer/guitarist Bret Tobias, guitarist Ed Hogarty, singer/bassist Scott Jefferson, and drummer Patrick Berkery. Suggested influences include The Byrds, Big Star, and The Band. Contempories compared to include The Pernice Brothers, Waxwings, and Beachwood Sparks. They played their farewell show on Nov 5th 2005. Formed in Oxford in 1991, the band regularly received the accolade of Oxford's Next Big Thing and in 1994/95 released two EP's on their own Indigo label: "Gluttony And Self-Abuse" and "Lily", to a growing army of fanatical fans. 1996 was their busiest year releasing three singles and the album "Variety", which although receiving positive reviews from the music press and also several TV appearances, this did not transfer to any great commercial success. 1997 saw the release of the controversial love song "When Martin Met Martine", and finishing a month long UK tour with "The Royal Variety Performance" at...
