"To call this outing "authentic" would be an understatement, given that Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders took only some digital recording equipment and Sanders' saxophone to Morocco to record it...the recording took place in someone's home with a large cast of musicians, many of whom are Ghania's family members. The recording did not suffer at all from the mobile equipment, and The Trance of Seven Colors lives up to its title, giving the listener first-hand access to Gnawa healing ceremonial music. De son vrai nom Farrell Sanders, Pharoah Sanders (né le 13 octobre 1940 à Little Rock, Arkansas, de parents professeurs de musique) saxophoniste de jazz originaire de l'Arkansas, commence à être connu sur la scène de jazz d'Oakland, en Californie, au début des années 1960. En 1962 il s'installe à New York, et reçoit rapidement le surnom de Pharoah par les membres de Sun Ra, avec lesquels il se produit. En 1965, il joue dans le groupe de John Coltrane, au moment où ce dernier commence à expérimenter un nouveau style de jazz, qu'on appellera plus tard le free jazz...
