Misako Koja (古謝美佐子) is best known as the former vocal leader of the female quartet Nenes (ネーネーズ) but has continually proved her prowess as a solo artist. She was born in 1954 in Kadena, near to Koza. She began learning sanshin when she was six from a relative, and then from Koutoku Tsuha and Setsuko Ishihara. She made her first recording when she was nine for Marafuku Records, and performed live from this time.
