Manel est un groupe situé à la tête de la nouvelle vague de l'avant-garde musicale catalane où il y a aussi, d'autres groupes comme "Els Amics de les Arts", "Mishima" ou "Antònia Font". Ses chançons mélangent la musique pop avec la musique traditionnelle catalane. Les lettres de ses thèmes paraissent simples, mais réellement elles sont très élaborées, avec la profusion d'instruments peu habituels dans le monde pop, comme l'ukelele ou le clarinette. Acoustic guitarist Maneli Jamal has lived in five different countries (Iran, Belarus, Germany, USA, Canada) and moved twenty times by the time he was 18. Singer and multi-instrumentalist, Zé Manel is the most famous and influential contemporary musician to emerge from the West African country of Guinea-Bissau. By the age of seven, Zé, playing drums and acoustic guitar, had become the main attraction of Super Mama Djombo band. During the 1970's, this seminal orchestra played a major role in the liberation struggle of this former Portuguese colony. In 1982, Zé released his first solo album "Tustumunhos di Aonti" (Yesterday's Testimony), which sounded the alarm over the formation of a new repressive ruling class in Guinea-Bissau.
