ABOUT THE DOOM BAND :

Ixion is an atmospheric doom metal band from France. It was formed in 2004 by composer Julien Prat, joined in 2006 by Thomas Saudray to work on vocals and lyrics. The demo « Through the space we die » is released in 2007 and gets a very good reception.
The band then decides to work on a full length album and in 2009, Yannick Dilly joins as an additional singer.
“To the Void” is completed in 2010. The same year, Ixion signs on Avantgarde Music. The album is released on the label in april 2011.



Complete biography :

The beginning of Ixion dates back to 2004, when Julien Prat decided to form an atmospheric doom metal project from his compositions. Featuring a lot of ambient soundscapes and electronic and orchestral elements combined to a melodic doom/death, six tracks are chosen for the release of a demo. Thomas Saudray joins the project in 2006 to work on vocals and lyrics with Julien.

The demo « Through the space we die » is released in the autumn 2007 and is very well reviewed in numerous webzines and in Hard Rock Magazine (Fr).

This good reception brings confidence to the band who decides to work on a full lenght album featuring only new tracks. The ambition is to go further into the atmosphere that the demo has introduced, intensifying contrasts in the music, and to improve the production.

Julien finishes to compose the album in 2008. On two tracks, Thomas takes part in the composition process bringing some more complete orchestral arrangements.

After the recording and programming of all instruments, an important work starts on the vocals in july 2009. Once the story imagined, the band gets down to the arrangement of lyrics, writting original texts, but also getting from dark works of poetry and literature which perfectly colour the concept and music of the album.

As the band needs a voice for clean vocals, Yannick Dilly joins the project in september. The trio goes well and experiments a lot during the recording sessions, making the music even more varied and intense emotionally.

Sharing the same vision of how the album should sound, Julien and Yannick decide to mix it by themselves. The sessions take place in march and april 2010.

The mastering is done one month later by Julien Courtois at Master + in Rennes.

Artworks are conceived during the spring with the help of the designer Hubert Griffe who creates a typography for the album and a logo for the band.

In july 2010, after three years of a process longer than expected but allowing the band to reach a new step, the album « To the void » is completed.

Four months later, Ixion signs on Avantgarde Music - the album is released on the label in april 2011.
