Music has always played a huge part in Hazard's life; his formative years were spent listening to reggae, hip-hop and soul in particular. Although interested by rave music and its culture from its inception, it wasn't until elements of the above mentioned genres began to appear in rave music that Hazard became truly engrossed. 1. Benny Jonas Nilsen, a.k.a BJ Nilsen, born in Nyköping Sweden in the mid seventies and now living in Stockholm. Nilsen began working with experimental music and sound at an early stage. He was influenced by the early tape movements with the pioneers of sonic assault and released his first recordings at the age of 15. Blake Hazard was born in Northern Vermont and taught herself to play guitar by writing songs. Her father, a guitarist, played traditional folk and country tunes as well as some Brazilian and jazz standards. Those jazz and bossa nova sounds would combine to form Hazard's musical sensibilities, as did her childhood experiences listening to Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, and, later, to Bjork, PJ Harvey, Beth Orton and Aphex Twin.
