The Smiths fue una banda de rock formada en Manchester, Inglaterra en 1982 por el cantante Morrissey y el guitarrista Johnny Marr. La banda disfrutó de un éxito considerable hasta su separación en 1987. Su música ha sido de gran influencia en la música indie.

The Lucksmiths son una banda independiente formada en 1993 en Melbourne ( Australia) , se les asocia con géneros como el indie pop, anti-folk y retro-pop.
Sus componentes son Martin "Marty" Donald (guitarra), Taliesyn "Tali" White (voces y tambores), y Mark "Marky" Monnone (bajos); en 2004 se les une el guitarrista de Mid State Orange's Louis Richter. A principios de los noventa se reunen con Chris Crouch, quien informalmente les contrata para la discográfica Candle Records. Crouch consecuentemente comienza a distribuir sus grabaciones, empezando así a tocar en el ámbito indie de Melbourne.

Es Una Cantante Irlandesa, que participo en la 7ª emision del show American Idol en USA, llegando hasta el top 6 del grupo. Fue considerada como la mejor, pero despues tuvo que compartir el titulo con Syesha Merca.

The Wordsmiths were a Scottish Indie band from Penicuik outside of the city of Edinburgh. They formed in 1990 and their music was inspired by the 'Baggy' sound of Madchester. As well as the C86 Indie movement. They came from small towns Penicuik and Loanhead in Midlothian, Scotland. Which enabled them to distance themselves from the mainstream. This in turn helped create a varied and random collection of Indie sounds for the discerning listener. They split in 1992 and the members when onto form new bands.

Dawn Smithson played bass guitar and sang in Jessamine; a band that released three albums on Kranky, singles on several other labels and contributed a track to the epic Music of the Spheres compilation on the Drunken Fish label. Dawn left Jessamine to pursue a career in fashion design. She did have plans to put out an acoustic-based solo album then, but by the time she moved from Portland to Seattle, United States and found herself immersed in school, there was no time for music.
