Believer se formó en Colebrook, Pennsylvania en 1986 por el baterista Joey Daub y guitarrista-cantante Kurt Bachman. La banda fue acompañada por Howe Kraft (bajo) y David Baddorf (guitarra). Comenzaron tocando metal melódico y editaron una demo The return en 1987.
