Kotekote kei is a subgenre of visual kei, and can also be called old school visual kei. Labels like Matina, Soleil, Key Party etc. used to produce lots of bands that can be labeled as kotekote kei. As much as people like to think nowadays that some new bands could represent this certain subgenre, it's not possible anymore at all. All kotekote kei bands have split up for some reason or another.
The music itself varies from one side to another - some bands can played dark and "twisted" music, maybe using some horror effects in their song (such as screams etc.). Some bands played light rock, suited for just about everyone.
Kotekote kei bands used to pay lots of attention to their clothing style - leather, PVC, lace, silk and other fancy materials were used on their stage costumes. Hairstyles varied a lot, but using colors like blue or bright red was nothing out of ordinary.
