Astrid or Ameerah is a Belgian singer/ tv presenter who raise to fame in 2003 as being one of the participants during the talent show 'Idols'. She did not win the show, but she did manage to be one of the ten finalist. As the songs she sang were quite disco'ish she got a record deal and appeared in early 2004 in one of the quarter finals of the Belgian selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest with 'Don't You Stop the Music'. She did not win the ticket to Istanbul but she did have a huge hit in Belgium....

She is considered to be one of the foremost singers in the Hindustani tradition and is an innovator of the Jaipur gharana, or a community of musicians sharing a distinctive musical style.
