Anfänge: Chingy wird am 09.03.1980 in St.Louis , einer Stadt im Westen von Missouri, geboren. Er wächst in einem der nördlichen Stadtteile von St Louis auf und beginnt bereits mit 8 Jahren zu rappen. Schon damals war er häufiger in Aufnahmestudios als irgendein anderer Rapper in St.Louis.
Wegen der vielen Studiobesuche machte sich seine Mutter erhebliche Sorgen, dass Ihr Sohn keinen guten Abschluss bekommen würde. Doch Chingy schaffte es locker seine Leidenschaft zur Musik und die Schule zu kombinieren und schloss 1998 mit einem guten Abschlusszeugnis die High School ab.

He is considered to be part of the Shibuya-kei movement, drawing heavily from bossa nova, lounge music, house music, and '60s movie soundtracks, but he also incorporates many other types of music.
