Mark Whitfield (c. 1967) is an American hard bop and soul-jazz guitarist born in Syosset, New York, probably better known for his recordings as bandleader for both the Verve and Warner Bros. labels. He has worked with Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith, Courtney Pine Nicholas Payton, and Chris Botti, among others. Barrence Whitfield (born Barry White, June 13, 1955) is an American soul and R&B vocalist, best known as the frontman for Barrence Whitfield & the Savages in the 1980's and 1990's. He, also, recorded two albums with country music singer-songwriter Tom Russell as Barrence Whitfield with Tom Russell and one with a New Hampshire-based jump blues and rockabilly octet, The Movers as a Movers with Barrence Whitfield. Barrence Whitfield (born Barry White, raised in New Jersey) has been singing with The Savages for decades. They first appeared on record with a self-titled debut in 1984 (Mamou label, since reissued by Ace UK). Their most recent releases are Savage Kings (Munster 2011) and Dig Thy Savage Soul (Bloodshot 2013). Their specialty is capturing the energy of early rock 'n' roll, R&B, and jump blues.
