Die Karriere des gebürtigen Jamie Smith beginnt 2005 als er und seine Freunde Romy Croft, Oliver Sim und Baria Qureshi die Indie-Dream-Pop Gruppe The xx gründeten. Der Name Jamie xx tritt als erstes im Jahr 2009 auf als er für das Debut Album der Band The xx ein Remix Album auf den Markt brachte.
