Animals as Leaders ist ein instrumentales Progressive Metal-Projekt des Gitarristen Tosin Abasi, der in Washington D.C. lebt. Das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum erschien im April 2009 via Prosthetic Records. Das Projekt entstand auf einen Vorschlag des Labels Prosthetic, dem Abasis Gitarrenspiel auffiel, der damals noch in der Metalcore-Band Reflux aktiv war. Daher wurde er gefragt, ob er gewillt sei, ein Soloalbum für das Label aufzunehmen. Abasi lehnte zunächst ab mit der Begründung, es sei egoistisch und unnötig, auch an einer Solokarriere zu arbeiten. Nachdem sich Reflux aufgelöst hatte, entschied er sich, das Angebot anzunehmen. Der Name des Projekts ist von Daniel Quinns...
