Gegründet wurde die Band Zebrahead 1996 von Ali Tabatabaee (Sprechgesang), Greg Bergdorf (Gitarre), Ben Osmundson (Bass), Ed Udhus (Schlagzeug) und Justin Mauriello (Gesang/Gitarre), wobei letzterer 2004 die Band verließ und die Band „I Hate Kate“ gründete.
Er wurde durch Matty Lewis, ehemaliger Sänger der Pop-Punk-Band „Jank 1000“, ersetzt.
Ihre Musik vereint Punk, Pop und (oft aggressiven) Rap, wobei in einigen Songs auch Elemente von Funk und Metal zu finden sind.
Die größte Bekanntheit genießt Zebrahead in Japan, wo schon Konzerte vor über 50.000 Zuschauern gegeben wurden und sie zu den großen Stars der Rockszene gehören.
