David Sanborn wurde am 30. Juli 1945 in Tamapa (Florida) geboren. Er ist ein amerikanischer Pop- Rock- und Jazzsaxophonist, beeinflußt vom Chicago-Blues. Als er mit 3 Jahren an Kinderlähmung erkrankte, begann er als Therapie Altsaxophon zu spielen. 1975 nahm er sein erstes Soloalbum "Taking off" auf. Der Durchbruch kam 1980 mit dem Album "Hideaway", damit verhalf Sanborn dem Saxophon maßgeblich zu neuem Ruhm in der Popmusik.
