Kansas ist eine amerikanische Rockband, die 1971 im US-Staat Kansas gegründet wurde und melodischen, progressiven Hardrock machte. Der Musikstil ist mit mystisch angehauchten und mittelalterlich anmutenden Klängen und Texten versehen, was der Musik etwas Neues und Besonderes verlieh. Auf der erfolgreichsten LP von Kansas Leftoverture kommt dies besonders zum Ausdruck. Sie zählt zu den Urvätern des amerikanischen Progressive Rock. Heute berufen sich viele junge Prog-Rock-Bands wie Dream Theater oder Symphony X auf Kansas als Inspiration und Einfluss. Kansas ging aus den Bands White Clover und Proto-Kaw hervor.

The Wizards From Kansas were an obscure country-psych rock group, formed 1968 in Kansas. In July and August of 1970 , the Wizards From Kansas recorded their eponymous debut album in San Francisco. During the recording of the album, several band members decided they would rather play jazz, and duly departed to pursue their interests.
Shortly thereafter, The Wizards From Kansas disbanded.

Katajainen Kansa is a finnish christian reggae band with influences from both finnish folk music and jamaican beats and rhythm.

Despite its wide usage, the Jew's harp is an instrument that is treated with little respect, and is rarely considered a solo instrument. Tapani Varis is someone who has completely mastered the instrument. With his first album "Munniharppuuna", he resurrects Finland's 500-year old Jew's harp tradition which was thought to have been lost forever.
Varis has added a wide geographical array of stylistic influences into his mix, including elements from the Jew's harp traditions of Hungary, Siberia and even Indonesia. In the end, however, his music is ultimately part of the Finnish fiddler and folk music tradition.
