Der Kopf der Band, Sänger und Gitarrist Mark Foster, stammt eigentlich aus Cleveland, ging aber nach Los Angeles, um dort unter anderem als Komponist für Film- und Fernsehwerbung Geld zu verdienen. Zuerst war er auch als Solomusiker unterwegs, bevor er im Herbst 2009 mit dem Bassisten Cubbie Fink und dem Schlagzeuger Mark Pontius die Band Foster the People gründete. Beim lokalen Radiosender KROQ machten sie im Jahr darauf mit dem Song "Pumped Up Kicks" auf sich aufmerksam. Über das Internet stieg ihre Popularität, insbesondere über das Portal Hype Machine, in das sie durch den Beitrag einer deutschen Bloggerin gelangt waren....

Son of a jazz trumpeter, Rennie started life playing tenor saxophone and sitting with his Father’s various bands around Southern England. Later he formed various funk bands playing sax and keyboards.. After making rudimentary House music on the wrong kind of drum machines with soon to be Rhythm Section members Ellis Dee, Richie T, and Nick Newton, they had interest from (amongst others) the new British house label Guerrilla. A current flows through Robin Foster’s tracks, a mesmerising quality conjuring up images of passing landscapes, fast-paced city nights and smoky colours. Hypnotic and hugely appealing, Foster’s intensely brooding instrumentals bring an intangible but undeniable tension, packed with lush cinematic textures, electronic loops, airy synths and all driven by waves of guitars. Hints of Talk Talk, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Radiohead, New Order or even The Smiths can be noted as Foster’s music floats back and forth between subtlety and intensity in his debut album Life Is Elsewhere. The Foster Kids are a five-piece band based in Norwich, UK, formed in 2006. The band perform both electric and acoustic. Lead singer Ian Alexander (who won four games on TV show Countdown) also performs solo acoustic. Members have played in various bands previously, including Massey and The Spinning Jennys. .
