Sorten Muld ist eine dänische Elektro-Folkband, die seit 1995 besteht. Der Name „Sorten Muld“ bedeutet „Dunkle Erde“. Die Band gewann zwei dänische Grammys für ihr Album „Mark II“. Die Mitglieder der Band spielten vormals Rockmusik.
Ihre Musik ist charakterisiert durch elegant zusammengesetzte Rhythmen und fließende Sounds typischer Instrumente der Folkmusik wie Dudelsack, Flöte und Geige in Electronica-typischen Kompositionen, die die dramatischen Texte untermalen. Formed in Rugby, Warwickshire as 'The Liberators', they became Pinkerton's Assorted Colours in 1965, and scored a Top 10 hit with their first single release, "Mirror, Mirror" written and sung by bandmember Tony Newman. They were managed by Reginald Calvert, and supported by his then radio station, Radio City. Lack of further chart success found them dubbed one-hit wonders.
