Formed in 2006, Distel is a musical outlet of Æter, one of the monikers of Dutch composer Peter Johan Nÿland - and Scramasax, a percussionist who has been involved in several other Dutch bands. Distel begann seine musikalische Karriere im Alter von 16 Jahren als Jazz-Gitarrist. Unter anderem arbeitete er mit Dizzy Gillespie, Henri Renaud und Tony Bennett zusammen. Er war musikalischer Begleiter der Chansonnière Juliette Gréco.

Jochen Distelmeyer (* 1967 in Bielefeld) ist ein deutscher Musiker. Besondere Bekanntheit erwarb er als Kopf der Hamburger Schule-Band "Blumfeld". Zwei Jahre nach Auflösung der Band "Blumfeld" begann er 2009 mit dem Album "Heavy“ seine Solo-Karriere.
Distelmeyer produzierte „Heavy“ zusammen mit Andreas Herbig (u.a. Deichkind, a-ha, Bootsy Collins) in Bandbesetzung. Sein Label beschreibt den Sound als "eindeutig, druckvoll und abwechslungsreich", er setze sich "deutlich von den zeitgenössischen Standardproduktionen ab".
