Creedence Clearwater Revival (auch bekannt als CCR) war eine US-amerikanische Rockband der späten 1960er und frühen 1970er Jahre aus Berkeley, Kalifornien.
Gründung – die frühen Jahre
Die Band begann als The Blue Velvets, gegründet Anfang 1959 von John Fogerty und dessen Schulfreund Doug Clifford, sowie Stu Cook, im kalifornischen El Cerrito.
In einem Interview erklärte Doug Clifford, dass er John Fogerty in seiner damaligen Schule im Musikraum kennenlernte, wo dieser gerade Klavier spielte. Er war auf den Raum aufmerksam geworden, weil Fogerty dort gerade die Art von Musik hörte, für die sich auch Clifford interessierte, nämlich Stücke von Fats Domino...
East of Eden war eine Rockband, die 1967 von Dave Arbus (Violine, Saxofon, Querflöte, Trompete, Gesang) und Ron Caines (Saxofon, Piano) in Bristol (England) gegründet wurde. Sie waren eine der ersten Bands, die Geige und Saxofon in der Rockmusik einsetzten.
Der Jazzrock, den East of Eden spielte, war seiner Zeit voraus. Erst 1971 hatten sie einen Hit mit Jig-A-Jig, das sie bereits zwei Jahre zuvor aufgenommen hatten. Der Sound der Band wurde mit der Zeit einfacher, rockiger. Es gab viele Umbesetzungen. Das führte dazu, dass der ursprüngliche Stil sich quasi im Kommerziellen verlief. Being around for some years already, the quintet still focused on practicing in the rehearsal room to improve its skills in songwriting and defining its sound.
