Jason Walton (aka JWW) started writing the mythology around Especially Likely Sloth in study hall, 18 years ago, when he was in eighth grade. He created an entire world; he drew maps, created dozens of species of animals, an entire cast of characters and elaborated upon this world and mythology daily in his classes. Finally, after years of planning and writing, Jason bought his first 4-track recorder and started composing music around this mythological universe. Since then, Jason has been more recognized for his work in Agalloch, Sculptured and Nothing, yet ELS remains his oldest, and most personal work to date. To learn about the history and mythology surrounding ELS and why ELS exists, you can download a 1MG .pdf of the book written by Jason and Chriss chronicling the birth of ELS. Although it just scratches the surface of the mythology, it is a good place to start. Download here: here. (right click and choose “save target as”)

In the late 90’s ELS recorded 3 demos that confused the critics, and bored the rest. Eventually, ELS signed a deal with Vendlus records and recorded and released the epic genre hopping nightmare that is But If What He’ll What Ant. At this point, Jason’s other ventures were gaining in popularity, so ELS was reaching a wider audience, even to the point of fans shouting requests for ELS songs at Agalloch live performances. After But If What He’ll What Ant, ELS released a “best of” CD and 2 EPs, and then fell quiet.

Now, in 2007, ELS is back, and completely fresh and revamped. Jason decided to reinvent ELS, head in a new musical direction, and shed many of the burdens surrounding ELS. ELS has a new attitude, new style, and a new direction. To help with this monumental task, Jason and ELS co-founder, Chriss Cobb, enlisted some new recruits to help. .
