Crut is a one-man musical project from John Book, originally from Honolulu but currently living in Wasington State. He began Crut as "an experiment in the works" in 1992, created everything in the bedroom from sounds and equipment that were easily available. The original concept of Crut was a group of four different characters, each played by Book. The anonymity Book seeked to have through the characters was pointless, since most people knew who and what Crut was.

As computers became more affordable (the first computer he bought was one with an 800mb {that's 800 megabytes} hard drive for $1500), Book found it easier to create the music he heard in his head with modern technology. No more pause tapes for him.

Early Crut music was a mixture of anything and everything, showing hints of the weird and the unusual. By the mid to late 90's it was primarily a quirky hip-hop project, with a love for creating instrumentals. In 2000, the microphone was put to rest and Book created the style of music he always wanted to create, a mixture of electronic music, hip-hop, and experimental.

In 15 years he has released 21 albums, with more music on the way. .
