The Coventry Automatics was one of several early names used by Coventry, UK band The Specials.

First known simply as The Automatics, the discovery of another band using the same name prompted the shift to The Coventry Automatics. Shortly after, the title "The Special AKA The Coventry Automatics" was adopted and then shortened to The Special AKA (also seen as The Special A.K.A.) for the band's time as support for The Clash's 'On Parole' tour in June/July, 1978.

Pressed by Receiver Records in 1993 in the UK and 1994 in the US, "Coventry Automatics AKA The Specials: Dawning of a New Era" is the only set of recordings by The Coventry Automatics to have officially surfaced.
