Sarah Marie Mullen fell in love with the harp at the age of five when a harpist visited her kindergarten class. It took seven years, and the organization of a neighborhood wide garage sale, for her to raise the money to buy her first nineteen string lap harp. Sarah began studying the harp with Karen Stern, and later with Diane Michaels. Her interests in music began with Celtic harp, and, in high school, expanded to include the Concert harp. She also studied the piano with Paul Nazzaro for 13 years.

Even though Sarah began performing professionally at the age of 15, she maintained interests in both science and music. In 1998 she was accepted to The Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she studied the concert harp in the studio of Yolanda Kondonassis, and to Oberlin College where she pursued majors in Biology and Anthropology. She graduated in 2002 with a BA in all three majors. After a period working in the field of molecular genetics Sarah returned to her first love, the Celtic harp. She can now be found performing at festivals and events around the United States and passing on her love of the harp. .
