You may have read lies, rumors, and legendary stories about William Caribou.

Perhaps you've even stumbled into a dusty hole in the wall in the middle of the vast American wasteland; places with names like Crossroads Cafe, Pioneer Bar, Chilkoot Charlies, only to discover that friends of Caribou Bill note he already left a trail of stories a mile wade in his wake towards new frontier.

Caribou Bill's alter ego, Matt Hopper, is polarizing in scope; you either love him or hate him. Nevertheless, the choice is always yours.

For those that care, he is an American aquarius drinker, a student of folk, blues, pop, rock, and noise. He loves Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York City just as much as he loves Chickaloon, Sedona, and Niagra Falls.

He is a fan of Tom Petty, Robert Smith, Van Morrison, pop music, exercise, travel, relationships, and sleeping in. He is not addicted to anything, but enjoys several minor vices. He wishes that everyone could experience a white Christmas in the dark sipping wine and cocoa curled up by a fire with a loved one.

He knows that "history is all in the eye of the beholder"...and that "the future is just around the corner"... and the present is where he always is, living for the moment and the goodness that still exists in the world. He is writing a novel, juggling no less than 30 musical ideas and songs at once, planning ten albums down the line, and wishing he had a spare bedroom for his brain.

Some say he is aiming at a target that doesn't exist, and because of it, he hits the bullsye with suprising accuracy.

He is only striving to be himself and asks that you will accept him for who he is.

Frank Black and Brian Wilson both said to hang onto it, so he's doing just that.

Matt Hopper will be recording an album in late 2006. He has already put in studio time with AVAST 2 in Seattle, The Hangar in Sacramento, and has booked more studio time for late October and most of November in Boise, ID.

"Alaska's finest" - Performing Songwriter

"On his self-recorded, five-song EP, singer/songwriter Matt Hopper explains, "I come from the country/beyond your city walls/I got some stories/but you're going to have to write to me and call," conjuring a Replacements-esque take on soft alt country. His stripped-down arrangements place subtle acoustic guitar work beneath melancholic vocals. In places, Hopper's whistle is the loudest part of the song, but there's something endearing and sweet in his vulnerable admissions and delicate instrumentation." - The Stranger
