“Manipulators“ is a French band based in Reims. In 2002, the “Manip’”, as they are nicknamed, released their first album and that way, they also signed their birth certificate with determination.

From the very first listening, we can notice the cohesion of the bass and drums due to their inevitable presence, which is a characteristic of a boosted progressive reggae where the sub bass is leading.

An explosive mixture of stimulating samples and guitar sounds is rolling on the road to groove, again and again. There is no doubt about it, all these special features indicate that it is pure dub with electro-rock backgrounds.

But, ordinary mortals can’t belong to “Manipulators” simply because they want to. “Manipulators” are kind of sorcerer’s apprentices who are defying the natural laws. Eternal alchemist, the sextet from Reims is taking the paradox as its trademark in the music world. In fact, the way they use sounds is a combination of textures both synthetic and organic. A wildly dark enthusiasm linked to urban oppression feelings comes out of the fusion between the sharpness of the riffs and the generosity of rhythms.

Effectively, the beat is getting percussive and insistent. So, the “Manipulators” supplant the academicism of a dub “à la française”, and they bring to it an unbelievable energy in order to push back the frontiers of that kind of music.

It is no accident if the word “hypnotic” is the adjective which is used more often to define the performances of the “Manipulators”. .
