Singer / Songwriter / Guitarist John William "Johnny" Garner. Born: Atlanta, 1938. Began musical career after moving to New Orleans, circa 1954. Appeared as vocalist/rhythm guitarist with Tony Farrdella in 'Tony Farr and The Swinging Guitars'. Recorded four songs: "Gonna Rock", "Baby Listen", "I'll Cry Again" and "Only Dreaming", circa 1956. These were independently recorded and never commercially released. Signed with Imperial Records, circa 1957. Recorded two singles: "Kiss Me Sweet / Little Starry Eyes (1958) and "Didi-Didi" / "Fool" (1958). All but "Kiss Me Sweet" were original compositions. Also co-wrote "What's The Use" with Tony Farr, released by Tony Farr and The Swinging Guitars on Enterprise Records in 1957 (Johnny Garner does not play on this record.). Retired from music business in 1958. Later became police officer, retiring in 1989 with the rank of captain. Briefly fronted local New Orleans band 'Red Clay' with bassist / arranger Jeff Zapata and guitarist / vocalist Paul Pelegrine in mid 1980's. Married Valerie Flynn in 1958, divorced in 1976. Married June Kelly in 1978. Has two children: John (born 1960) and Joanie (born 1972). Currently residing in Florida (as of 2013).
