Hinemoana Baker is a musician and writer from New Zealand. Her heritage is mixed - Maori and Pakeha (European New Zealander). Her tribes are Ngati Raukawa - Ngati Tukorehe; Ngati Toa Rangatira; Te Ati Awa - Ngati Mutunga, Ngati Tama; Kai Tahu - Kati Moki Tuarua; Ngai Kiritea - England, Deutschland/Tiamani.

She's performed her music and poetry around Aotearoa / New Zealand since the mid-90's. Hinemoana's debut album 'puawai' and her first book 'matuhi | needle' were released in 2004. Her album was a finalist for two New Zealand music awards.

Her songs could be described as 'altfolk' or 'altworldmusic' - acoustic, vocals-focused, with the occasional touch of alternative rock and jazz. She writes in both Maori and English.

Hinemoana has toured New Zealand many times. In March 2006 she performed with an invited group of New Zealand musicians in the International Arts Festival, honouring the words of one of New Zealand's most well-known poets, Hone Tuwhare.
