Steven Frank "Steve" Albini is a renowned figure in underground and alternative music, primarily known for his work as the lead singer and guitarist of punk/noise rock bands like Big Black, Shellac, and Rapeman. He is also a producer, having worked on famous albums like the Pixies' Surfer Rosa, The Breeders' Pod and PJ Harvey's Rid of Me. Albini also worked on Nirvana's third album In Utero, but his version of the album was rejected by the label. Steve also founded the studio complex Electric Audio in Chicago, where he also serves as the principal engineer.

Albini was born in Pasadena, but his father's profession (wildlife researcher) caused the family to move frequently. He went to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illisnois, where he studied Journalism and founded Big Black. .
