The Ascendicate finds its origin in High Point, North Carolina. Formerly known as The7Method, a break-up forced members Eric Marlowe (lead vocals) and Chris Wheat (drummer) to retool and look for new band mates, eventually nabbing three other guys who were playing in various bands at the time. An opportunity and playing time with renowned producer Travis Wyrick landed The Ascendicate on the Solid State label and, before too long, the release of their first album To Die as Kings. Ascend is a collaborative musical project from California, United States between Gentry Densley (Iceburn, Eagle Twin) and Greg Anderson (Sunn O))), Goatsnake, Engine Kid, among others). Both have been making music that has crossed paths several times in the last 19 years. The most notable being during the 90s when Anderson’s band Engine Kid toured with and shared a split album with Densley’s band Iceburn. During that time both were heavily experimenting with the fusion of jazz (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, John Coltrane) and the dark behemoth tones of influences such as Melvins, Gore, Slint, Caspar Brotzman. Ascended was formed in May 2006 in Pori, Finland by Lautamäki, Saarhelo and Koski and soon after that also Vainio joined the group. At first the band had no idea what kind of music they would play. After rehearsing almost a year without a vocalist in Saarhelo's cellar and later in local youth center the band finally found singer Sookari in spring 2007. Step by step the style of music evolved into traditional death metal.
