The Five Blobs were a group of studio musicians put together in 1958 by session leader Bernie Nee. The ensemble was assembled in Los Angeles for the express purpose of recording "The Blob", the title song for the Steve McQueen film The Blob. Written by Burt Bacharach and Mack David (Hal David's brother), the tune featured a prominent saxophone part. The single was released on Columbia Records and became a hit, peaking at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100[1] and hitting the Top Ten on the regional LA charts.[2] .
Mr. Blobby is a fictional character who featured on Noel Edmonds' Saturday night entertainment show Noel's House Party, which was often a ratings winner in the 1990s. He was designed as an outrageously over the top parody of a one-dimensional, mute novelty character, which ironically made him distinctive, absurd and popular. He was a large pink humanoid, covered with yellow spots, sporting a permanent toothy grin and jiggling eyes. He communicated by saying the word "blobby" in an electronically-altered voice, expressing his moods through tone of voice and repetition. Bird Blobs are a garage rock band from Melbourne, Australia. They formed in 2000, and consist of Tim Evans (previously of Mouth, and Sea Scouts), Ian Wadley, and Steve Masterson. They have released two albums on Tasmanian label Unstable Ape, as well as appearing on numerous compilations. The band have toured the United States and UK, including playing the All Tomorrow's Parties music festival in December 2004.
