The Zolas are a Canadian indie rock band based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The core of the band is duo Zachary Gray (vocals/guitar) and Tom Dobrzanski (piano), with other musicians supporting them live and on record. There’s something happening on the west coast. Whether it’s in the air, the water, or the drugs, a pool of talent has formed around the notion that you can have your pop and eat it too, with brainy, prog-influenced weird-beards like Bend Sinister and arcane psycho-confectioners Mother Mother demonstrating that musical complexity can still be hummable. Commercial, even. Throw the Zolas into the picture...
Hailing from around the UK but meeting in East London's Hackney Wick, Zola Blood are Matt West (vocals), Ed Smith (synths), Sam Cunnington (drums), and Paul Brown (guitars). They formed in 2013 and with some rough demos quickly caught the attention of Talk Talk manager and Label, Keith Aspden (Pond Life songs) and have been working together since. Zola Blood’s first recordings emerged from their windowless rehearsal room in 2014. Their dark, rumbling debut 'Grace' garnered interest from blogs worldwide and was quickly followed by the minimal 'Meridian', which struck a more euphoric note. Both tracks reached the top of...
Meet the strangest known band from the pre-punk dayze of glam. A sound like no other and a story as out there as the The Monks. We're talking commitment here - spacesuits, Spock ears, even antennae feelers - onstage, on the street, and wherever they made the scene. ZOLAR-X spoke their own language, and insisted they really were from outer space to anyone who could get past their, er, unique hairdos long enough to listen. A teenage Jello Biafra rolled his eyes when he saw Zolar X featured in Lenny Kaye's Rock Scene, but never forgot the band. Years later...
Arlette Zola is a singer who represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982. She was born Arlette Jaquet in the city of Fribourg on 29 April 1949. Her song, "Amour on t'aime", was an upbeat number in the style of the UK 1968 entry "Congratulations". Zola was placed third behind Germany and Israel. She made two further attempts at reaching the Eurovision finals. In 1984 she took third place in the Swiss final with Emporte-moi. 1985 also saw her in third spot, this time with Aime-moi, performed with Helder and the Heldernauts. An early Arlette Zola song, "Je suis...
SCARLETTE IN THE STUDIO RECORDING THE NEW ALBUM Kept very busy writing over the last two months with some exciting collaborators, Scarlette also played some British Festivals and a Smooth Radio Liverpool Docks show on 21st July, before heading USA bound to play for US TV networks and do some more writing with certain under-wraps A-list personnel. 2012 is shaping up nicely, in fact. In April Scarlette released ‘The Great Expectations’ EP, debuting a new, rawer sound. Lead track ‘Hour Of Sunshine,’ co-written with and produced by Julian Emery (Lissie) was remixed by Cenzo Townshend (Snow Patrol) and complemented by...
