More info about the Argentinian Los Alamos:
In less than one year since their debut album No se menciona la soga en casa del ahorcado (Cuatrereo Records, 2005), Los Alamos has been chosen as the revelatory band of 2005 by the readers and critics alike of Rolling Stone (Argentina). The space-country sound that characterizes the band has awakened laudatory praises in neighboring countries. In August of this year, Los Alamos put out their second cd, Emboscada, an EP of covers and live recordings. Originally, Los Alamos was formed as an instrumental band in 2003 with two guitars and drums. Soon after they began adding more members and the band became tighter and Peter started, first in English and later in Spanish, to write lyrics. Together with the arrival of North American Jonah Schwartz and his mandolin, the current formation was reached and the band turned its musical visions towards country and folk landscapes while maintaining their identity as a rock band. Like this, the music of Los Alamos both spurs and breaks through the local self-dubbed narco-country scene. Soon after self-releasing their debut album No se menciona la soga en casa del ahorcado en October 2005, the band began generating a whirlwind of positive commentaries and enthusiastic followers, culminating with the naming of the group as the Revelatory Band of 2005 by Argentina´s Rolling Stone. In a very short time almost every major music critic in the country had heard and written about Los Alamos´ venerable journies down folk-laden melodies with psychedelic scenery. The echos soon bounced off neighboring countries like Brazil (the magazine Bizz, Rolling Stone Brazil, the Journal Folha de Sao Paulo and the magazine Senhor F), Uruguay (La Diaria), and Chile (Super45 and Rolling Stone Chile), that warmly received the melodious space-country and its desolate roadsides, nocturnal calm, and oneiric landscapes. They have played with artist like Devendra Banhart (USA), Dead Brothers (Switzerland), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (USA), Tv on the Radio (USA), Daft punk (France),The Evens (USA), in the 22º Mar del Plata Internacional Film Festival, Festival Buen Dia 2005, Estudio Abierto 2005/2006, twice in Ciclo Nuevo! 2005, Club Niceto, El Cubo, Teatro Santa María, La Trastienda, Casa Babylon (Córdoba), and throughout 2006 they have been touring internationally playing three explosive shows in Santiago (Chile) with local legends The Ganjas, Guiso, and Perrosky, as well as in Montevideo, Uruguay in the historic Teatro Central with Astroboy. Los Alamos, along with their sound engineer Gonzalo Birdman Rainoldi, recorded their second album in 2006 - Emboscada, an EP of rarities, live songs, and covers of some of their favorite musicians: Neil Young, The Friends of Dean Martinez, Spaceman 3, and East River Pipe. This album was released in Argentina and Brazil simultaneously in August 2006 by the label Maldito Sea! The music of Los Alamos is influenced by such lumiaries as: Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Robert Johnson, John Fahey, John Coltrane, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, Spaceman 3, Spritualized, Tindersticks, The Cramps, and Johnny Cash, among others. The six ramblers that make up the band haven´t yet stopped for breath and they are continually pushed by auspicious winds at every crossroads. Their songs resound as sharply as gunshots – maybe it´s this that continues waking up the people in every city they pass through… Los Alamos has recently recorded three new songs ”The butcher’s son”, ”Broken moon” and ”Darker than a well” for the soundtrack of HIDE, a new american road movie directed by K. C. Bascombe (Canada). The soundtrack also includes two songs from their first album ”No se menciona la soga en casa del ahorcado”; ”La estampida” and ”Longsleeves”.
