El grupo Goliath fue una idea de Javier Ponce y Angel Arias, que se juntan simplemente para aprender a tocar.Intentan preparar una banda consistente para presentarse al Villa de Madrid del año 1981 pero al final no lo consiguen. Al poco tiempo entra Luis Pulido a la voz y pasan a llamarse Oro Negro, pero no estaban estabilizados aún. Pasaron algunos músicos por la banda sin quedarse en ella.
