Harvey Milk is an American experimental rock / sludge band that formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in the early 1990s. Despite playing numerous live shows and releasing a slew of 7" singles and three full length albums, they never received much attention outside of their local fanbase. It was not until years after the band's demise that their singles, as well as all three full length albums, saw re-release through various labels, most notably Relapse Records. They returned in the late 00's and released two albums. While Harvey Milk invariably draws comparisons to the Melvins, due to their penchant for...
Eric Von Schmidt (May 28, 1931 - February 2, 2007) was an American singer-songwriter associated with the folk/blues revival of the 1960s and a key part of the East Coast folk music scene included Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and others. Von Schmidt is probably best known for not being the author of the song Baby, Let Me Follow You Down, which was for years a staple of Dylan's musical catalogue. Dylan's label, Columbia Records, credited Von Schmidt as the composer of the piece. Although he penned a book of the same name, Von Schmidt denied ([3]) the assertion made by...
PJ Harvey is an abbreviation of singer-songwriter Polly Jean Harvey (b. 9 Oct 1969 in Yeovil and raised in nearby Corscombe, Dorset, England) and a name of two acts. First was a Harvey-led trio, formed in 1991 with Rob Ellis (drums) and Steve Vaughan (bass), which débuted with Dry (Mar 1992). Overlapping with the trio, Harvey reused the name for solo work, inaugurated by 4-Track Demos (Oct 1993). The trio broke up in 1995 and Harvey continued solo - with her album Let England Shake (Feb 2011) and her latest album The Hope Six Demolition Project (April 2016). The trio's...
Brian Harvey (born Brian Lee Harvey, August 8, 1974, Walthamstow, London, The United Kingdom) is an English musician and lead singer of pop band East 17. Harvey was initially slated to be a backup singer and dancer for East 17, but during the initial recording session he was heard singing along by the recording staff and was promptly instated as the lead singer of the band. Harvey's vocal style emulated R&B and New Jack Swing vocalists from the U.S. but with a flavour closely followed by Craig David. His vocals put him into a position of the band's frontman, or...
The Harvey Girls, named after the famed railroad waitresses, was formed in Lawrence, Kansas, in 2003 by Melissa Rodenbeek and Hiram Lucke. Their music stands as a cross between Prince Paul's production work and the songs of the Shangri-Las (that's what they're sticking with; feel free to come up with your own description). They now reside in Portland, Oregon. The influences for their folk-psyche-electro rumpus ( to name a few of the musical variety) include: The Beach Boys, Bjork, Kate Bush, Can, Captain Beefheart, De La Soul, Dr. Octagon, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, King Tubby, The Kinks, Fred Lane, Stephin...
