Identity Rock, also known as Identitarian Rock, is a genre encompassing bands connected to various nationalist movements in their respective countries. The first and most notable emergence manifested in France in the mid 1990s known as Rock Identitaire Français. Vae Victis is frequently credited as the firebrand that started the movement, although Identitarian Rock had antecedents in the French skinhead scene.
Italy would develop an analog to Rock Identitaire Français, although the history of their nationalist movement traces back to the 1970s with Janus and all right-wing bands affiliated with the Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI)-sponsored Hobbit Camps. The Italian variant would be known natively as Musica alternativa di destra .
