Candido Fabre began singing in the Charanga orchestra "La Original de Manzanillo", and is known as a supremely gifted and talented improviser or "sonero" (improviser), able to create a son from any given situation or expression. Candido Fabre was the songwriter, arranger and main vocalist with the Orquesta Original de Manzanillo in the 80's before forming his own band Candido Fabre Y Su Banda in 1993. Candido Camero is credited with being the first percussionist to bring conga drumming to jazz. Well known by his first name alone, Candido is a key figure for jazz aficionados to know. Born in Havana in 1921, Camero is know for his contributions to the development of mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz. In the early 1950s, Camero was a featured soloist with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. He created a unique playing style by tuning his congas to specific pitches, so that he could play melodies. Candido Camero (1921 - ) is Cuban percussionist (mainly conga and bongo) who backed many a jazz act since the 1950s. Early on he had recorded in his native Cuba with Machito. He moved to New York in 1952 and started recording with Dizzy Gillespie. During 1953-54 he was in the Billy Taylor quartet and in 1954 he performed and recorded with Stan Kenton. He recorded a number of albums under his own name as well, and even enjoyed some hits during the disco era, most notably with the Babatunde Olatunji penned track "Jingo" which he recorded for Salsoul Records....
