Contrastate were formed in 1987 by Stephen Meixner and Jonathan Grieve. Their initial musical ventures were of a more improvisational nature, based on noise and volume (not to be confused with power electronics). Alien Crime Syndicate (1997–2005) were an American alternative rock group formed by Joe Reineke in San Francisco, California before relocating to Seattle, Washington after the collapse of his previous band The Meices.
