Russian Circles is a three-piece post-rock/post-metal band from Chicago, Illinois. The band plays epic, sprawling music which runs the gamut of heavy discordant metal to soft delicate passages. They are also known for their energetic live shows, having toured with Isis, Tool, Red Sparowes, Pelican, Minus the Bear, Daughters, amongst various others. This West Midlands mod band came together in mid-1979. Mick Waller had previously been in INJECTORS and in NEON HEARTS. They issued a demo tape and on strengh of this were signed to a local Graduate label who released their debut 45 "Opening Up" in November 1979. Both this and the flip side were group compositions.
