Для авторов песня стала самой роковой, так далеко отодвинув прочие заслуги, что возникло убеждение, будто больше группа не создавала решительно ничего. Между тем крайне несправедливо причислять оных ко второму эшелону. Более того: ещё до "Hotel California" считалось, что группа миновала свой пик и пора бы ей на покой. Но нетленная композиция опрокинула все представления о рок-иерархии. Она не просто символизирует семидесятые - её называют лебединой песней рока вообще. Не в том смысле, что потом не было хороших песен. Не было ничего принципиально нового, вехового - и прогнозы на будущее также неутешительны....

После последнего концерта X-Japan, хидэ сосредоточился на своей сольной карьере, сформировав новую группу "Hide with Spread Beaver". Членами группы стали старые друзья хидэ, игравшие с ним во время первого и второго сольных туров. Первый сингл Hide with Spread Beaver, "Rocket Dive" вышел 28 января 1998 года.
