Основателем и фронтменом банды стал парень, взявший себе такое же имя, Лиззи Борден. Первым его помощником в создании команды был его брат Джоуи Скотт Харджес, занявший место за ударной установкой. Другими членами коллектива стали гитаристы Тони Матузак и Джин Аллен. Хуже всего обстояло дело с басистом, его никак не удавалось найти.
Подходящая кандидатура (Майк Дэйвис) обнаружилась лишь тогда, когда "Lizzy Borden" собрались записывать трек для "Metal Massacre IV". Свой первый релиз команда выпустила на "Metal blade" в 1984 году – это был EP "Give 'em the axe". Помимо собственного материла группы туда попал кавер "Rainbow", "Long live rock'n'roll".
