György Sándor Ligeti (ur. 28 maja 1923 w Dicsőszentmártonie, obecnie Târnăveni, Siedmiogród, zm. 12 czerwca 2006 w Wiedniu) - Kompozytor węgierski pochodzenia żydowskiego, również obywatel Austrii. Uznawany za jednego z czołowych kompozytorów muzyki klasycznej XX wieku. Ligeti był synem okulistki i bankiera, dr. ekonomii. Ojciec został zamordowany 1944 w KZ Bergen-Belsen a jego młodszy brat Gábor w KZ Mauthausen-Gusen, zaś matka przeżyła KZ Auschwitz-Birkenau. Od 1936 otrzymywał lekcje fortepianu . Po maturze w 1941 r. chciał studiować fizykę i matematykę, jednakże z powodu żydowskiego pochodzenia nie został przyjęty.
