Before their breakup in 1997, Kome Kome Club was famous for lavish music and dance shows with ambitious costumes, sets and multi-media artistry. In 1992, their single Kimi ga Iru Dake de (君がいるだけで) won the Japanese record first prize. After their breakup, vocalist Carl Smokey Ishii (Tatsuya Ishii) began a solo career late in 1997. K2C's horn section continued on under the name BIG HORNS BEE. They chose their name in honor of the American Tom Tom Club, using the word "kome" meaning rice in Japanese, to reflect their own nationality.

Sin Bandera was formed spontaneously: Leonel García (from Mexico) had the idea to be soloist, he showed talent on guitar and voice, but his project never took off with the record companies. At the same time, Noel Schajris (from Argentina) was preparing a solo album after making his debut in 1999. Both being musicians, composers and singers, they discovered the ideal formula to unite their talents and personalities in 2000.

Hi-Standard are a Japanese punk rock group who formed in 1991. Since then, they have become a popular and influential part of Japanese underground music. The release of their hugely popular "Making the Road" sparked sold-out Japan shows and US/European tours with punk bands such as NOFX, WIZO, and No Use for a Name. Although Hi-Standard were Japanese born, all of their major releases were sung in English. Live footage of the band shows them talking to the crowd in their native Japanese and then immediately changing to English for the songs.
